I'm a letting agent, can you handle uPVC repairs across multiple properties?+
Yes, that's a regular arrangement for me in Bournemouth. Report the fault, I'll diagnose and fix it, and invoice the agency with a clear breakdown per property.
The handle on my West Howe door spins without doing anything, what is it?+
A failed gearbox, the most common uPVC fault there is. I carry the common ones and it's usually done in a single visit.
My composite door on a new estate won't lock in the heat, is that normal?+
Doors move with temperature, and a marginal alignment shows up on hot days first. An adjustment and realign usually cures it, no parts needed.
Does my rental need anti-snap cylinders for insurance?+
Most policies now expect TS007 anti-snap or BS3621 locks. I'll check the doors and fit exactly what the policy asks for, same visit in most cases.

Bournemouth's uPVC work splits along the town's housing lines. Out at Kinson and West Howe the postwar estates run almost entirely on uPVC and composite doors, and those mechanisms are now old enough that gearbox failures and dropped doors are everyday calls. In the rented parts of town the same faults show up harder and faster, a door used by a full HMO takes many times the slams and handle-lifts of a family home.
Landlord doors and tenant doors
A big share of my Bournemouth uPVC work comes from landlords and letting agents: doors reported at the end of a tenancy, handles that spin, doors that need a hip to close. I diagnose the actual fault before quoting, fit the gearbox, cylinder or keeps it really needs, and realign the door so the repair lasts the next tenancy rather than the next month. It's also the natural moment to fit TS007 anti-snap cylinders, which most insurers now expect on rented property.
For homeowners the promise is the same one I make everywhere: replacement doors are for the scrapyard cases, not the standard ones. A gearbox or cylinder costs a small slice of what a door does, and because the van is stocked with the usual parts, one visit normally sees the job finished.
The composite doors on newer builds
The newer developments around Bournemouth have gone in with modern composite and uPVC doors, and I'm seeing more of their failures each year. They're better doors, but when the mechanism plays up they need someone who's worked on them, not a guess with a pry bar. Price agreed before any work starts, no call-out fee.
