Why has my seafront uPVC door seized when my old house inland never had trouble?+
Salt air. It corrodes cylinders and multipoint mechanisms from the inside, and doors near the water simply age faster. Caught early it's a cheap service rather than a big repair.
Our holiday home's back door won't lock and we leave tomorrow, can you fix it today?+
Usually yes. The van holds the gearboxes, cylinders and hardware that cover most uPVC faults, so a single visit normally has your door locking again before your drive home.
Is it worth servicing uPVC doors that still work fine?+
On the coast, definitely. A clean, lubricate and realign every couple of years is the difference between a door that lasts and a seized mechanism in January.
Can you upgrade the security on our Somerford estate door while repairing it?+
Yes, a TS007 three-star anti-snap cylinder is a quick swap while I'm already on the door, and it closes off the most common way uPVC doors get attacked.

Ask Andy to call you back
Ask any locksmith who works the coast: uPVC doors age faster in Christchurch than they do ten miles inland. Salt air gets into cylinders, springs and multipoint gearboxes, and doors at Mudeford, Stanpit and along the seafront stiffen and seize years before their inland twins. Through Somerford and Burton the estate housing runs on the same uPVC and composite doors as anywhere, plus the newer developments' more advanced doors. I repair all of it, and it's almost never a new door.
Salt air, and what to do about it
The coastal pattern is always the same: the handle lifts a little harder each season, the key needs more of a wiggle, and then one day the mechanism gives up, usually in winter when the door's swollen too. Caught early it's a service and adjustment, a clean, lubricate and realign that costs little and adds years. Left late it's a gearbox, which I carry and can fit the same visit. If your coastal door has started fighting you, that's the moment to call, not after it seizes.
Second homes deserve working doors too
A door that's only operated one week a month suffers differently, mechanisms like being used, and long idle spells let corrosion take hold quietly. For second-home and holiday-let owners I'll service the doors, swap tired cylinders for British Standard anti-snap units, and leave every door locking smoothly for whoever arrives next. Price agreed up front, no call-out fee, parts backed for 12 months.
