FAQ

After a break-in in Poole

We've just found the break-in, can you really come tonight?+

Yes. Securing burgled homes is emergency work and I run all hours for it, usually 15 to 30 minutes to any Poole postcode. Ring me before you tidy anything, and once the police have said you can touch the door I'll make it safe.

What will my insurance company want from me?+

A crime reference number from the police, photos of the damage, and an itemised invoice for making the property secure. I photograph everything before I touch it and my invoice lists parts and labour separately, insurers accept it without fuss.

They snapped the lock, what stops that happening again?+

A cylinder built to resist it. TS 007 three-star and Sold Secure Diamond cylinders sacrifice their front section and stay locked when attacked. Every burglary repair I do on a snapped door gets one, replacing like with like would be leaving the same door open.

The glass in the door has gone too, do I need a glazier as well tonight?+

Not tonight. I board broken panes as part of securing the property, weathertight and solid, which buys you time to sort glazing in daylight without the house standing open.

Need me in Poole now?

Give me a ring. It’s the quickest way to get to you, usually 15 to 30 minutes, any time of day. Can’t talk? Leave your number and I’ll call you straight back. No call-out fee either way.

When someone's been through your door the job is to get you secure again the same visit, not to book you in for next week. Police.uk logs 66 burglaries within a mile of Poole town centre in the year to May 2026, and behind each one is a household that needs the door working again that night. I'm based on Haven Road, so most of Poole is a short run for me at any hour, and the van carries what the aftermath of a break-in actually needs, replacement cylinders and gearboxes, timber lock hardware, and boarding for anything glazed that's gone.

What I do when I arrive

A burglary repair visit in Poole normally runs like this:

  • Make the opening safe first, whether that's the door, a frame, or boarding a broken pane
  • Replace what's damaged, snapped cylinders, wrecked gearboxes and torn keeps are the usual casualties
  • Fit better than what failed, a snapped plain cylinder gets a TS 007 three-star anti-snap one, not a copy of the lock that let them in
  • Photograph the damage and give you an itemised invoice, which is exactly what your insurer will ask for alongside your crime reference number
  • Walk the rest of the house with you so the other doors aren't the next weak point

The Poole pattern, and the honest fix

Around the uPVC estates, Canford Heath, Creekmoor, Oakdale, the classic entry is a snapped euro cylinder, it's quiet and it's quick on the plain cylinders most doors still carry. On the high-value doors out at Canford Cliffs and Sandbanks I more often see damage from failed attempts, gouged frames and bent hardware on doors that held. Both end the same way, the door rebuilt properly and the cylinder upgraded so the same trick doesn't work twice. January was the worst single month in the police.uk year for Poole, so if you're reading this in autumn, upgrading before the dark evenings is not a bad instinct.
